Maija's work is unlike any other. She meticulously experiences and speaks through the brush the relationship she has with plantlife. And that has extended into a geologic approach to textiles and the classic pom. An award-winning artist and avid traveler, she was ready for a new portfolio site that shared her work in a more sophisticated way.
She had started with an old squarespace site, and an archive of work in google folders. We started by cleaning the temple before we built... aligning all the paintings, poms, and prints... not to mention the commissions, environmental work, and the formalizaiton and production of her online shop. All that and then a bit more- the writing and development of bios, praxis and artist statements, and all the variables to bring language to what she was up to.
For the design, we chose a parallax experience for a cinematic feel upon arrival, while still honoring the classic white artist site, but with fonts that differentiate. Then we got to work on the how of a pop-up pom workshop, which she has been running since launching.
